In 1987 a group of volunteers organized the St. Charles County Golden Games Association as a 501-C-3 "Not For Profit" organization. It's purpose was to promote healthy lifestyles for seniors 55 years and older. In 1987 the Golden Games consisted of thirty athletic and eleven non-athletic events over a three day period.
In 1996 the Golden Games became a member of the U.S. National Senior Organization (Senior Olympics). Since then, many Golden Games participants have qualified in the Missouri State Senior Games to represent Missouri at the National Senior Games. To comply with the US National Senior Olympics the age limit was lowered to 50 years and older.
The Golden Games have grown to become the second largest senior games program in Missouri. The games now take place over a six day period and include hundreds of participants. The Golden Games are classified as an "Open Event" drawing participants from Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, California as well as right here in Missouri.
To this day, the St. Charles County Golden Games Association continues to be an ALL VOLUNTEER organization run by a dedicated Board of Directors and Planning Committee organizing the Golden Games each year and many volunteers helping at each event during the week of the games.
